Currently On NANTUCKET

Hello NANTUCKET! It is so GOOD to see you again! I haven’t been bACK since August and it’s a long time to stay away from my happy place and from my Mom, so a long trip was needed to recharge, reset, and soak up Mom’s love and the salty Nantucket air. I actually arrived on the island last Thursday evening and SURPRISED my Mom. She had no clue I was coming and damn was her expression worth it. Love her to the moon and back and excited and grateful to spend this much time with her.

Winter on Nantucket is a whole different vibe and it is one that as I have gotten older have started to love and embrace. It is extremely quiet, peaceful, windy, and hauntingly inspiring and beautiful all at the same time. Let’s just say that when I arrived on the island in the 8 seater puddle jumper, we were the only plane at the airport…no private jets…no other commercial planes…not a soul in sight. But this is winter on the island and you either like it or you don’t.

What I LOVE…

Being able to walk down the streets with no traffic;

Empty beach walks that usually is just me and the fat seagulls;

Cozy dinners out at one of the few restaurants that are open;

No traffic;

No pretentious summer people angry at life;

Connecting with the community;

Binging on TV series with Mom;

Reading reading and more reading;

Lots of delicious home cooked meals with Mom and friends!

HALF MARATHON TRAINING

I am in the thick of it! I am on Week 7 and the time and training is flying by. I have such a different attitude and overall mindset about all of it, so my energy has been high and strong. The only time I have really struggled is when my PMS came into town and if you know you know. It’s freaking brutal and FRUSTRATING, because it is the ONE thing I have zero control over, so I just power through.

I am not slacking on my strength training as I know a lot of runners when they start training for races they start to neglect the strength and I don’t do this. It’s just as important to keep building and strengthening ALL my muscles, because this in the end helps my speed, endurance, and also helps to prevent any injuries.

And running on Nantucket during the winter months is a BITCH…I have to do a 10 mile run before I leave and let’s just say that I am praying for good weather. The wind is no joke here and there is a lot of cursing going on, but it will make me stronger.

READING

I am on a reading tear and I am all about it! I am so grateful to have a friend across the street from us, who loves to buy books. I haven’t been inside her house, but her library is probably pretty EPIC. So when I need a book…I send her a text…She sends me some options…I choose what I want…And then she leaves them in a bag on her stoop and Lucy and I have an excuse to do our daily walk and we pick them up and bring them home.

I recently read this book and LOVED it! I had been in a reading slump and this was an easy, mindless, fun, romantic, sexy book and I enjoyed every second.

Now I am reading this and I LOVE LOVE LOVE! It’s about three very different badass women, who have connected with each other in the same neighborhood. They all have certain “witch” powers and come together to try and solve a murder mystery in the town. It has a dark, earthy, mysterious energy and I really love it. Call me crazy or cheesy, but I believe in this kind of stuff. So think what you want!

EATING

Running makes me ravenous and I am here for it! And I am honoring it too, which is a huge step for me on my health journey. I am not restricting myself before my big runs. I am eating all the carbs. I am listening to my body and giving it what it needs. And I am also going to start experimenting more when I get back home. I ordered Eat Slow Run Fast and there are a lot of amazing recipes in there that I cannot wait to try.

But let’s dive a little bit into my Nantucket eating! Whenever I come up to Nantucket, my appetite changes and I also eat differently as well. It forces me out of my comfort zone, which can be hard for me, but it is also an opportunity for me to let go of that control and just eat and live and be free. If you know you know…

WEDDING PLANNING

We are cruising along and I have even been doing some work up here! It’s really hard to believe that we are 3 ½ months away and if anything, time feels like it is speeding up. The RSVPs are coming in, we are doing a walk through of the venue the week I get back with our wedding planner Amanda (who is amazing and I will go into more detail about this another time) and our floral designer Maddy. I seriously have a badass team of women helping me and I am so grateful for them.

Wedding planning is interesting, fun, stressful, and a little overwhelming. It brings up a lot of emotions and I find myself thinking about little things as we can get more into it. I find myself already worrying about whether I’m going to fall on my face walking down the aisle in heels, how nervous I’m going to be saying my vows, will I be sweating? And planning a wedding as all of you know isn’t cheap, so I am just taking it one step at a time and one deep breath at a time and believe it will all work out. All stuff that I will dive into more as we go down this road.

All I know is that right now I am happy to be home…Grateful to spend this time with my Mom and my friends. My soul is filled with the Nantucket air, the quiet of the island during the winter months, and to catch up on work, and read read read. Even though I am in the thick of my half marathon training and working out like a beast, I am taking the time to slow down as well and it feels good.

xoxo
