IN THE CHAOS - TIPS TO PRACTICE SELF-CARE

And just like that our lives have drastically changed and have come to a screeching halt…

With so much uncertainty in the world and in our country, it is hard to know what to do, what to feel, and how to comprehend what is going to happen and when and if it is ever going to end! It is a scary time and I have my moments. I will be the first to admit that this has hit me hard. I am a worrier and each morning when I wake up, I am trying my hardest to remain positive and to go about my routine and support my clients and do ALL THE THINGS to keep me sane, but it is hard AF. I am finding it really hard to concentrate.

BUT...Each day I try to look at the POSITIVES and I am working on doing the things that are keeping me sane and healthy. It is almost like we have to go back to the basics and this may be a really good thing...Even though it feels like there is so much DOOM hanging over us, there are a lot of positive things that people are doing in the communities and for each other. Let’s stick together, let’s stay strong together...LET’S KICK THIS SHIT IN THE ASS and build back UP!

Here are a few things that I have been doing and hopefully you are too...

MOVE YOUR BODY - No brainer with this one!!! Movement and sweating is therapy for me and it is why I do it daily, but now more than ever, it is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. And thankfully there are so many resources available to make this possible. You can find at-home workouts all over social media.

Check out this great list of companies that are offering online workouts...A great resource if you are looking for something new to try - Well & Good.  Also, check out some of these badass workout rockstars for more inspiration to move your body:

The Works - Have to support my local peeps!

Rachael Good Eats

Kelsey Wells - Major girl crush and serious fitness motivation!

For me, I am going to be the same thing that many other people are doing. Working out at home with the tools that I have. And if there is any time to start running again, it is NOW. Also, long afternoon walks with Lucy are always happening. I have also seen some of my influencer friends working out together via FaceTime which I think is a great way to stay connected and motivated if you need that extra push.

What are some of your favorite online workouts?

GET THAT VITAMIN D - I am so grateful for the recent beautiful weather in Charleston. Taking Lucy for her walks has been so therapeutic for me physically and mentally. Being able to wear shorts, soak up the sunshine, and just breathe the fresh air is a reminder of how grateful I am to be alive, despite this chaos. For just that walk, I am able to disconnect from the world and be at peace with myself and Lucy. And it is so refreshing to see so many people also out with their children either walking, biking, playing sports in their driveway, or doing yard work.

And a BIG shoutout to Lucy too, because through all this she has been staying closer to me more than usual; she has been almost calm and just being a support system for me. DOGS KNOW. They are so smart and intuitive animals especially in times of crisis.

How are you getting your Vitamin D?

EAT REAL FOOD - Nothing has changed here as to what I have been eating during this time. I am so grateful that when we do go to the stores that there is still lots of produce for me to get. THANK YOU to all the farmers, truckers, and people working in the supermarkets who are making this possible. Truly grateful for these individuals who are showing up and working their asses off to make sure we still have food and that the shelves are stocked.

As far as the actual meals, I am just focusing on eating all the nutrients that will keep me healthy and fueled during this time. My meals are simple and easy. I am trying to just focus on the good and to keep my immune system strong. Oh and LOTS of freaking water! If you are looking for some recipes to whip up while at home, here are two links that I recommend checking out. These are bloggers who I love and have been following for years.

What are you currently eating while at home?

READ AND DISCONNECT - Easier said than done, but 100% NECESSARY! I have found myself in the evenings getting sucked into scrolling and reading and it just leads me down a really dark hole. Talk about a total mind F. There is just so much information being shared, whether it is true or false, and it is way too easy to get sucked into it. I end up turning into a total “Negative Nancy”. Thank goodness for Momma bear calling me every night to check in on me...YES, she still does that and I appreciate those phone calls. It is also good for me to know that she is okay as well.

And as we really get into this situation, I am trying to write more in this space and to READ. Day by day I am doing more of this and reading a good book at night is truly helping me to disconnect from electronics and the world. I am currently reading “The Prince of Tides” and I am loving every second of it. It is an oldie, but a goodie.

What are you currently reading or watching?

BE GRATEFUL - For both the big things and the little things! For the doctors, nurses, military, truck drivers, who are working their asses off day in and day out. To the small business owners who are trying to stay afloat and doing whatever they can to serve us, whether it is with food, retail, or fitness. For warm sunny days. For all the trees and flowers that are blooming again. For a roof over your head and food on the table. ALL THE THINGS…There are so many, so let’s not forget that.

Stay safe and healthy friends! xoxo
